Get Settled in Your New Home

Everyone knows moving is a stressful and sometimes traumatic experience (even if we don’t want to admit it), but the excitement of settling into your new home will hopefully outweigh the stress. At Billy Goat Moving in Fort Collins, we do everything we can to decrease your stress level during the moving experience, but once the last box or piece of furniture is unloaded and moved into the house, the process of settling in is left to you.

Tips to Get Started on Settling In

Focus on one room at a time: It’s important to not spread yourself too thin when unpacking. Focus on one room at a time, perhaps starting with the kitchen or the bathroom. You don’t want to be ordering takeout or going out to eat too much during the first week in your new home, and getting the bathroom in order can help you feel more organized, since you’ll want to take a shower after a long day of unpacking.

Create a relaxation space: You don’t have to leave the chair, couch, or TV where you put them, but creating a spot where you can sit down for an hour can help your mind and body decompress during unpacking. Hopefully you’ve had the cable and internet hooked up, so you can enjoy your favorite shows or streaming service.

Get out and explore: Settling into your new home doesn’t mean you have to stay inside all the time, trying to find a spot for everything. Get out and explore your new neighborhood, checking out the bars, restaurants, and stores within walking distance from your new residence. It’s also a great way to meet new people!
