Colorado got its first taste of snow in a few months over this past weekend, and there are likely many mixed feelings about the cold, blustery days we’ve had. The nice thing about Colorado is that the snow usually melts quickly once the sun comes out the next day. At Billy Goat Moving in Fort Collins, we’re willing to move in any weather, but with winter on the way, we want you to be prepared to move in the snow, should your moving date fall on a cold, snowy day.

CHECK YOUR TIRES
Our team is always checking the tires on our trucks, making sure they’re ready for any weather and road conditions. If you’ve lived in Colorado for any amount of time, then you likely know how important it is to make sure your tires are ready for the snow. Winter tires are a must for many vehicles, and if you’re moving from Loveland to Durango, or from Grand Junction to Sterling, then you’re going to drive through some snowy areas during your move. Checking and/or changing your tires can make moving in snow much safer and much more enjoyable.
CLEAR THE SIDEWALKS AND DRIVEWAY
If snow falls on or before your moving date, then take the time to clear the sidewalks and the driveway. This will make for a much safer moving experience for you and your movers, and our team will greatly appreciate the effort you put forth. No one will have to worry about slipping and falling while carrying a box or tote, and the loading of the truck will go much faster. There will also be less snow and ice being tracked into your home, although we will always put down plastic walkways to minimize our tracks
Once you get to your new house, take a few minutes to clear the snow off of those sidewalks and driveway. This will make for faster unloading, and as it was with your old house, there will be less snow and ice finding their way inside. Overall, a clear path will make everyone happier and the entire process safer!
PLAN YOUR ROUTE
Our team proudly serves all of Colorado, and we’ve driven many of the roads and highways, and over many of the mountain passes found in the Centennial State. We’ll gladly help you plan your route to your new home and can provide advice on the best way to go. You can follow the same route we plan to take, or go your own way to arrive sooner rather than later. If you’re moving from one side of the Rockies to the other, then it’s important to keep in mind that certain mountain roads, such as Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park, will be closed from mid-October to early May due to heavy snowfall.
PLUG IN THE COFFEE POT
Once you get to your new house, and the snowy road trip is behind you, make a point to find the coffee pot and plug it in right away. Even if all you have is a kettle, warm drinks will be a welcome relief from the cold temperatures outside. You can make coffee, tea, or cocoa, and everyone that helped you move will be more than happy to enjoy a cup or two. Make sure you have paper cups on hand for easy pouring and disposal, since your regular cups will still be packed away in a box.
