Research Neighborhoods and Schools Before Your Move

As we covered in our last blog, relocating to a new city can be stressful and there are many things to consider before making the final decision to move. Once you’ve made that decision, it’s time to start looking for a place to live in your new city. While a house or apartment is the first priority, you’ll also want to learn about the neighborhood you’ll be living in and the schools near your new home. At Billy Goat, we’re proud to serve all of Colorado, and in this blog, we’ll discuss some ways to discover more about your new city before you move.

YOUR NEW NEIGHBORHOOD

Moving into a new house is always exciting, but you may want to know more about the neighbors and the neighborhood. Is your new home part of an HOA? Are there job opportunities nearby for your spouse or teenage kids? What are the demographics of the area, and how safe is the neighborhood? There are plenty of online resources that will let you know more about a particular neighborhood, its history, and who lives and works in the area. If you have a friends or relatives who already live in your new city, pick their brain and see what they think about a certain neighborhood area (keeping in mind that your experience may be vastly different from theirs).

FINDING A NEW SCHOOL

One of the toughest parts of a move can often be uprooting your kids from their school and having them tell their friends goodbye. You might not be moving that far away, but you will need to find a new school in your new city. This transition can be tough on kids of all ages, and doing some research into the best schools based on academics, athletics, and other aspects can give your kids something positive to look forward to. Again, if you can, talk to people who live in the new city or who have kids who attend a certain school, or make calls to several schools and ask them about their academic success. You want your kids to receive an outstanding education, and the right school may just determine where you decide to live.

Settling into a new city can be a challenge, but if you’ve found a neighborhood you love and a school that provides your kids with everything they need, the transition can be much easier. Colorado has a plethora of amazing neighborhoods that are close to shops, restaurants, and outstanding schools, and our team of movers would love to help you get to your new home.
