May is here, and that means warmer weather in Colorado will soon be here to stay. Summertime is one of the most popular times for moving to another house or apartment, and at Billy Goat in Fort Collins, we’re always ready to help with your summer move. Along with the normal moving tips such as planning accordingly, packing everything safely, and switching your utilities, there are a few other things to keep in mind when moving during the warmer months of the year. In this blog, we’ll cover some of those suggestions.
No, we’re not talking about wearing clothes that make you look cool while you move, but rather that keep you cool on moving day. Lightweight and comfortable clothing will help keep you from overheating during the moving process. Our team will handle all of the heavy lifting, but you’ll most likely be plenty busy with things of your own.
Keep Water Close By
Along with wearing clothing that won’t make you sweat more than you have to, it’s important to stay hydrated during your move. If you’re moving to a new house on a weekend in July, chances are the temps are going to be close to 85 or 90, and keeping water close by will help you avoid heat exhaustion and overall fatigue. Moving can be quite a workout, and water will get you through the day!
Turn on the AC
Hopefully you’ve checked that the air conditioner in your new house works properly. If it does, take the time to turn it on when you first get there on moving day. Our movers will thank you, and you can get a little bit of reprieve from the heat every time you come in from outside. Keep in mind that the doors and windows of the house may be open, so you may not want to crank it all the way, just enough so that the inside is more comfortable than outside.
Take Perishable Things Inside
If you’re packing perishable snacks for your trip to the new house, be sure to take those things inside when you arrive. You don’t want to open your overnight bag to find melted chocolate or cheese! It will also give you a chance to make sure the fridge is working (and you can stock the fridge with water for your family and the moving crew).
Schedule Your Move Now
Since summer is such a busy moving season, it’s important to schedule your move sooner rather than later. Moving companies across Colorado will be filling up with appointments, and if you have a limited range of dates when you can move, it’s best to contact a local mover today. At Billy Goat, we’ll do our very best to accommodate your desired date, and will always provide exceptional service!
